Abstract
We report a case of a 44-year-old woman who developed Fanconi's syndrome in association with the oral ingestion of L-lysine. L-lysine is widely available in health food stores and has been recommended in the lay press for the treatment and prevention of recurrent herpes simplex. The development of a severe tubulointerstitial nephritis, and eventual progression to chronic renal failure, underscores the importance of this entity, heretofore unrecognized in humans.Entities:
