Abstract
The fungal pathogen Blastomyces dermatitidis produces an adhesin (WI-1) in yeast stages, which contains repetitive regions that bind host-cell receptors. Adhesin and glucan may modulate fungal interactions with macrophages; their level of expression is altered in hypovirulent mutants. Adhesin is also involved in immune responses, and may be important in eliciting the clearance of the fungus.Entities:
