Nurses and physicians: creating a collaborative environment.

L Blickensderfer1.

Abstract

For generations, the nurse/physician relationship has often been characterized as strained, even adversarial. Research has shown that when nurse and physicians work well together as colleagues, everyone, including their patients, benefits. However, the conflict continues. This article discusses the reasons for nurse/physician conflict, its impact on the patient, and strategies for promoting a more healthy collaboration between these two critical caregivers.
