A critical period for acoustic trauma in the hamster and its relation to cochlear development.

G R Bock, J C Saunders.

Abstract

Young hamsters pass through a developmental stage during which they are unusually susceptible to acoustic trauma. This sensitive period occurs after apparent structural and functional maturation of the ear and appears to be dependent on unidentified developmental changes within the cochlea.
