Care of collegiate athletes.

T A Brandon1, P Lamboni.

Abstract

Caring for collegiate athletes requires the coordinated efforts of a sports medicine team that includes primary care physicians, specialists, trainers, and other allied health personnel. In addition to screening requirements, team physicians must be knowledgeable of a wide array of conditions, including cardiovascular, infectious, and eating disorders, as well as traumatic injuries. In today's managed care environment, obtaining appropriate care for an injured college athlete may be challenging.
