Abstract
Nontoxigenic Escherichia coli strains bearing K88 fimbriae have been associated with diarrhea in piglets. We have used guinea pig erythrocytes as a model of the host cell to study the cellular alterations after adherence of purified K88ab fimbriae. Although Mg2+-dependent ATPase was inhibited (up to 61%), Na/K ATPase was not. Metabolic enzymes were not significantly affected.Entities:
