Fractures of the foot in children.

A W Trott.

Abstract

Fractures of the foot in children are less common than in adults and are due to severe trauma in which associated injuries may take precedence. Disturbances of growth can occur, usually when there is associated soft tissue damage. Because remodeling of the long bones of the foot does not always correct marked displacement, adequate reduction should be sought to prevent subsequent foot discomfort. Open fractures of the foot deserve considerable care. Primary closure of the wounds should be avoided.
