Cross-striated banded structures in cutaneous leishmaniasis.

M Sandbank.

Abstract

Banded structures were observed in 4 cases of cutaneous leishmaniasis. These structures were found in proximity to macrophages containing leishmania and were intermingled with native collagen, elastic fibres and ground substance fibrils. The possibility that banded structures are an indication of active, accelerated collagen production is discussed.
