The asthma specialist and patient education.

D Donaghy.

Abstract

Despite the availability of effective treatments, morbidity and mortality in asthma are increasing. Patient education is essential if adverse factors in the control of asthma are to be overcome. Standard information and education given to patients in a respiratory clinic is insufficient. A formal asthma education programme delivered by an asthma nurse specialist improves patients' understanding of asthma and their inhaler technique.
