Emphysema: concepts under change--a pathologist's perspective.

Abstract

The diagnosis of pulmonary emphysema is often neither as obvious nor as easy as is generally assumed. In this review, the methodologies are discussed by which emphysema can be accurately diagnosed. The classification of emphysema is outlined, with the salient gross and microscopic features listed.
