Effect of biguanide treatment in obese children.

A Lütjens, J L Smit.

Abstract

In seven children of normal weight and in nine obese children (more than 30% overweight) from 8 to 14 years of age, blood glucose and insulin levels were estimated. The obese children were then treated with dimethylbiguanide (Metformin-HCl) during 3 months. After this period the tests were repeated. It is shown that a significant reduction of the insulin values, insulinogen indices and weight occurred after this treatment.
