Abstract
DNA methylation is an important process contributing to transcriptional regulation in animal and plant cells. The well known reutilization of DNA nucleotide bases indicated that DNA degradation occurs in many cells and tissues. On the other hand, the reutilization of 5-methyl-2'-deoxycytidine monophosphate in the DNA synthesis would have deleterious effects on gene regulation. Recent molecular insights into the exclusion of exogenous 5-methylcytosine from DNA are the subject of this review.Entities:
