Abstract
Extracellular matrix macromolecules are capable of complex interactions. Recent studies demonstrate that extracellular matrix macromolecules can regulate the synthesis of chrondroitin sulfate by chondrocytes. Extracellular chondroitin sulfate stimulates chondroitin sulfate synthesis, whereas external hyaluronic acid inhibits chondroitin sulfate production. Other matrix macromolecule-cell interactions are reviewed. An hypothesis is proposed to account for the interaction between the cell and its extracellular matrix macromolecules.Entities:
