Laparoscopic resection of a splenic artery aneurysm.

E C Saw1, W Ku, S Ramachandra.

Abstract

Laparoscopic resection of a 2.5 cm splenic artery aneurysm in a 64-year-old woman is presented. The diagnosis was suspected on plain roentgenograms of the lumbosacral spine and confirmed by abdominal CT scan and selective splenic arteriography. The hospital course was uneventful and she was discharged 2 days postoperatively. This new endoscopic approach offers a useful alternative to the surgical management of splenic artery aneurysms, and may have some theoretical advantages, including less postoperative pain and shorter convalescence.
