.

Abstract

During the 1980s, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection emerged as a leading cause of death in the United States. This report updates national trends in deaths caused by HIV infection during 1990 and 1991 and indicates that HIV infection/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) continues to cause an increasing proportion of all deaths.
