Abstract
We report the histopathological findings of the anterior cornea from a patient with skin biopsy-proven epidermolysis bullosa simplex. As seen with light microscopy, the cornea had a fibrocellular pannus deep to a thickened epithelial basement membrane. Transmission electron microscopy of the anterior cornea demonstrated a nonhomogeneous basal epithelial layer with abnormal attachment complexes to an irregular, multilaminar basement membrane. The findings of transmission electron microscopy of the bulbar conjunctiva were normal.Entities:
