Abstract
The Foley catheter provides for urinary drainage by a self-retaining inflatable balloon mechanism. The morbidity associated with its use is minimal. However, blockage of the balloon port occasionally occurs, making its removal difficult. We discuss the various strategies used for catheter removal and recommend the use of mineral oil as the first line of intervention because of its reliability, safety and cost-effectiveness.Entities:
