Abstract
We investigated the effect of chloroquine on the fertility of adult male rats. Rats were administered chloroquine at a daily intra-peritoneal dose of 10mg/kg body weight and 40mg/kg body weight per rat, five days a week for 16 weeks. Females mated with treated males showed a dose dependent decrease in the number of litter per female rat. In the in-vitro studies, more than 80% os spermatozoa were immotile in all concentrations of chloroquine tested. These results suggest that chloroquine brings about its antifertility effect by decreasing sperm motility.Entities:
