Abstract
Acute gout is a well known complication of the commencement of allopurinol therapy. Prophylaxis is needed for some months, even after serum urate levels have returned to normal. Colchicine is usually preferable to NSAIDs for this purpose, being cheaper, and better tolerated, especially in patients with peptic ulcer, gastrointestinal bleeding or dyspepsia or who are taking anticoagulants.Entities:
