Abstract
Mycobacterium sp. strain BB1 was isolated from a former coal gasification site. It was able to utilize phenanthrene, pyrene, and fluoranthene as sole sources of carbon and energy and to degrade fluorene cometabolically. Exponential growth with solid phenanthrene, pyrene, and fluoranthene was obtained in fermentor cultures. The growth rates were 0.069, 0.056, and 0.040 h-1, respectively. Several metabolites of phenanthrene and fluorene metabolism were identified.Entities:
