Abstract
This chapter traces the employment picture for women with disabilities over the last two decades. It shows that supply-based explanations, such as medical need or willingness to work, do not explain the proportion of persons with disabilities in the workforce as well as general labor-market trends do. The growth of the service industry has provided more opportunities for women with disabilities to join the labor force over the last two decades, but often in roles of part-time work, less job security, lower pay, and little or no benefits.Entities:
