Dynamic external fixation for fractures of the proximal interphalangeal joint.

Abstract

This article presents the relevant anatomy of the proximal interphalangeal joint and the determination of its axis of joint motion. Based on findings of a single axis of motion, the principles and indications for dynamic external fixation are presented. Illustrative cases and results are shown.
