Stress in immigrant families with handicapped children: a child advocacy approach.

M Lequerica1.

Abstract

Poor immigrant families must cope with stress stemming from loss of home and adaptation to the host country. Those with handicapped children are also burdened with a parallel set of stressors in adapting to the handicap in an alien environment that may include a complex service system. Implications for practice are discussed with particular emphasis on advocacy to enhance delivery of services.
