Family physicians and the health care team.

M C Huffman1.

Abstract

Today, family medicine deals with a spectrum of physical, social, psychological, and developmental issues in day-to-day practice. It is unrealistic to expect family physicians to intervene with all issues. Multidisciplinary health care teams can provide comprehensive and effective care, but teamwork does not occur automatically. This article reviews the process required to develop an effective team and the role of family physicians on health care teams.
