Abstract
We conducted a survey of 83 colleges of pharmacy in the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada to determine the status of didactic and experiential paediatric pharmacotherapy teaching in entry-level programmes. Sixty-five completed surveys (54 from BS programmes and 11 from entry-level PharmD programmes) were received and analysed. Forty-four (81.5%) BS programmes and 11 (100%) of the entry-level PharmD programmes provide an average of 5.1 and 9.2 h of didactic paediatric teaching, respectively. While all of the entry-level PharmD programmes offered experiential rotations in paediatrics, only 38 (70%) provided BS students with an opportunity to receive paediatric experiential training. Colleges of pharmacy should re-evaluate their curricula to ensure sufficient preparation of graduates in paediatric pharmacotherapy for entry-level positions.Mesh:
