The principles of data protection concerning patient related data in Finland.

The situation in Finland is described as to the principles of data protection concerning patient related data. Both the formal legislation and the practise are considered. Emphasis is on the use of a chronological lifelong health record, used by all public health care institutions. Rights of the patients and obligations of the institutions are considered.
