Abstract
The reason for chromosome mosaicism being sometimes confined to only part of the conceptus is unknown. To address this problem, we produced tetraploid<-->diploid chimaeric mouse conceptuses. At 12 1/2 days, no tetraploid cells were detected in the fetus. They rarely contributed to other derivatives of the primitive ectoderm lineage but were commonly found in the primitive endoderm and trophectoderm lineages. This provides a useful animal model of human confined placental mosaicism and suggests that the primitive endoderm (hypoblast) lineage should be included in future studies of human mosaic conceptuses.Entities:
