Interpretations of illness and non-compliance with nursing care.

This article examines some of the factors that lie behind patient non-compliance with care regimens, paying particular attention to patients' constructions of their illness. The nature of control in encounters between patients and professionals is explored using examples drawn from studies of doctor/patient interactions as a basis for understanding the issues.
