Intrathoracic scapular prolapse after thoracotomy.

S W Gould1, P D Radecki, R B Gembala-Parsons, D F Caroline.

Abstract

The authors present a case of intrathoracic prolapse of the scapula after anterolateral thoracotomy. Although shoulder deformity and weakness have been reported after thoracotomy, intrathoracic scapular displacement has not previously been described. Debilitation and steroid therapy may have contributed to weakness of the chest wall. Computed tomography of the thorax was essential in making the diagnosis.
