Abstract
Micturition disorders simulating neurogenic bladder disease have been loosely termed "dysfunctional voiding". No underlying neuropathy can be found. A variety of voiding disturbances have been identified since the early 1970s, each with its own characteristics and clinical relevance. We have classified voiding dysfunctions into mild, moderate and severe, according to their potential impact on the upper tracts. Bladder instability, the Hinman syndrome and the Ochoa syndrome are the only dysfunctional voiding syndromes that are associated with reflux or ureterovesical obstruction.
