Abstract
Apoptosis, a mode of cell death commonly observed when death is a desirable or programmed event, has several characteristic structural features. These features appear to be induced by a range of gene products which, together, supervise and participate in the controlled dismantling of the cell. In this article the molecular components of the apoptotic machinery and the proteins implicated in the regulation of this mechanism of cell death are discussed.Mesh:
