Abstract
Corynebacterial recipient cells exposed to heat, organic solvents, pH shifts, or detergents show an increased fertility in subsequent interspecific matings with Escherichia coli. This effect is independent of de novo protein biosynthesis and seems to be due to a direct inactivation of a restriction system active against foreign DNA that enters the cell by IncP-mediated conjugation.Entities:
