Abstract
The recent mapping of quantitative trait loci in plants indicates that traits are often controlled by relatively few genes, some of which have large effects. Developmental genetics has shown that plant development is often regulated by transcription factors that activate developmental programs in response to internal or environmental signals. These transcription factors are good candidates for the major genes that govern morphological evolution in plants.Mesh:
