Blood lead and tap water lead levels in Ibadan, Nigeria.

F O Omokhodion1.

Abstract

Blood lead levels of a segment of the population in Ibadan were determined using atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Mean blood lead levels of 11.4 micrograms/dl and 12.3 micrograms/dl were recorded for females and males, respectively. Tap water lead levels at various locations in the city were < 5 micrograms/l. Although current levels of lead in the environment are within acceptable limits, the trend of increasing industrialization in the city indicates the need for pollution control in the environment.
