Evaluating differences between stuttering and nonstuttering speakers: the group difference design.

M A Young1.

Abstract

This paper focuses on some suggested analytical indices to be used in group difference studies, specifically in research comparing stuttering with nonstuttering speakers. The introductory material places the group difference design in an historical context and shows its relationship to underlying conceptualizations of the nature of stuttering. The major portion of the paper addresses the development, interpretation, and application of these analytical indices. Finally, limitations of the group difference design are described.
