Abstract
The bacterium Helicobacter pylori is tropic for epithelial cells and the mucus layer in the stomach lining, and is associated with the development of gastritis, ulcers and possibly also gastric malignancies. Adherence to the gastric epithelial cells is mediated by fucosylated blood-group antigens associated with blood-group O phenotype, which could explain the higher prevalence of ulcerative disease in individuals with this blood group.Entities:
