Abstract
Retroperitoneal varices may occasionally resemble retroperitoneal masses on computed tomography and B-mode ultrasound. Biopsy could be disastrous in this situation and angiography has previously been required to establish the diagnosis in suspected cases. This unusual problem can nowadays be readily diagnosed by colour Doppler. We report a case in which retroperitoneal varices were initially misinterpreted on B-mode ultrasound as retroperitoneal masses, but colour Doppler established the diagnosis without the need for further investigations.Mesh:
