Assessing postnatal uterine involution: a review and a challenge.

E Montgomery, J Alexander.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: to examine the literature relating to the assessment of postnatal uterine involution. LITERATURE REVIEW: the following databases were searched--Cumulated Index to Nursing & Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), Medline, Excerpta Medica (Obstetrics & Gynaecology), MIDIRS. KEY
CONCLUSIONS: no evidence was found that any form of anthropometric assessment of uterine involution in the early postnatal period has either preventative or predictive value. Research on this topic is long overdue.
