Abstract
To address a Congressional directive for a comprehensive study of the military medical care system (including dental care), the Tri-Service Dental Chiefs convened a panel of dental epidemiologists to develop a standardized protocol for assessing the oral health of soldiers, sailors, and airmen. This paper discusses previous military and civilian oral health surveys and outlines key design features of the common military protocol that evolved from this critical review of the literature.Entities:
