Abstract
Recent studies on gene activation by interferons have uncovered a direct signaling pathway from the cell-surface receptor for interferons to the nucleus. Activation of JAK tyrosine kinases by interferons leads to activation, by direct tyrosine phosphorylation, of a family of latent cytoplasmic transcription factors named STATs (for signal transducers and activators of transcription), which then translocate to the nucleus to direct transcriptional activation.Entities:
