The power to shape memories: critical care nurses and family visiting.

Through visiting policies, nurses have the power to control important memories that the patient and family experience during the patient's stay in the critical care unit. This Grand Rounds reviews the literature on critical care visitation and discusses five of the common reasons given for restricted visiting policies. A case study is used to illustrate the problems with restricted visitation.
