The pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and comparative efficacy of flurbiprofen LAT.

W Bolten1.

Abstract

After topical application, concentrations of flurbiprofen in serum, synovium and other deeper tissues are low in comparison with oral application and in comparison with concentrations in skin. Undesired systemic effects are therefore rare. In localised soft-tissue rheumatism and osteoarthrosis of the knee joint, flurbiprofen LAT has been shown to be at least as efficacious as indomethacin ointment and comparable in efficacy to flurbiprofen 40 mg three times daily and ibuprofen 200 mg three times daily. The mechanisms of action of external topical applications have not been sufficiently elucidated.
