Episodic tardive dyskinesia and parkinsonism in bipolar disorder patients.

S Scappa1, P Teverbaugh, J Ananth.

Abstract

Three cases of rapid cycling bipolar patients manifesting episodic parkinsonism are described. Moderate to severe parkinsonism and tardive dyskinesia appeared in all three of these patients before the onset of depression, then worsened during depression and disappeared during mania. A possible mechanism for this phenomenon is hypothesized.
