Abstract
In this article we focus first on the molecular mechanisms controlling the activity of the heme-regulated translational inhibitor, HRI, in erythroid cells. Then we discuss the tissue-specific expression of HRI. The experimental evidence obtained to date indicates that the major physiological role of HRI is in adjusting the synthesis of globin to the availability of heme.Entities:
