Wernicke encephalopathy with symmetric pericentral involvement: MR findings.

M Yamashita1, T Yamamoto.

Abstract

MR imaging of a 67-year-old woman with Wernicke encephalopathy (WE) demonstrated symmetrical hyperintense lesions along the central and precentral sulci bilaterally besides the usual diencephalic and brain stem abnormalities. Postmortem examination confirmed that the lesions in the cerebral cortex were necrotizing and similar to those in typical WE.
