Abstract
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder of the voluntary motor system. Involvement of the respiratory system is inevitable and leads to the development of respiratory failure, the usual cause of death in this disorder. ALS at present is incurable, and only symptomatic treatment is available. This article presents guidelines for the recognition and management of respiratory failure.Entities:
