Abstract
The author conducted a survey of 210 nursing staff members in a community hospital to identify their attitudes and knowledge about organ and tissue donation. Results showed that 32% (n = 68) of respondents identified the significant difference between organ and tissue donors and 53% (n = 112) described feeling uncomfortable discussing donation with families. Fifty-seven percent (n = 120) of those who had been involved with donor families in the past were more likely to feel comfortable discussing donation with family members.
