The early psychological tasks of marriage: Part I.

To build a gratifying and enduring marriage, couples must address and resolve seven psychological tasks during the early years of the marriage and again at the milestones of the adult life course. The formulations of the tasks are described in this preliminary report of a longitudinal study of 50 happy marriages.
