Adenosine mediates the effects of ethanol on the cAMP signal transduction system.

A S Gordon1, I Diamond.

Abstract

Acute exposure to ethanol causes increased cAMP production whereas chronic exposure results in heterologous desensitization. These changes are due to accumulation of extracellular adenosine resulting from inhibition of adenosine uptake into cells.
