Abstract
The protein mediator described originally as macrophage migration inhibitory factor has been "rediscovered" to be both a novel pituitary hormone and a pro-inflammatory, macrophage-derived cytokine. MIF plays a pivotal role in the host response to endotoxic shock and appears to serve as a pituitary "stress" hormone that regulates systemic inflammatory responses.Entities:
